PRF Sugarbush

The Petawawa Research Forest has one of the nicest sugar shacks you’ll ever find. It was built by the Petawawa National Forestry Institute as an educational facility and hosted many field trips for school children. Although currently not operational, the Friends of the PRF are making plans.

For several years volunteers Ian Miller and Michelle Stein operated the sugar bush at the PRF for elementary school classes.

Ian Miller made maple taffy for children’s groups as well as University of Toronto Forestry students on their annual tour of the PRF.

The Chalk River & Area Lions Club used to hold MAPLEFEST at the PRF Sugarbush in April. Crowds of people lined up for pancakes and maple syrup.
