We will have a short business meeting to start.
Liz Cobb, Operations Manager at the PRF, will give us an update on current activities at the Research Forest.
Our guest speaker will be Kerry McLaven, CEO of the Forest Gene Conservation Association. The FGCA is a not for profit organization promoting the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of the genetic base of the forest- through the lens of climate change. Their interests include the recovery of species at risk in Ontario, such as the endangered Butternut.
The FGCA has recently partnered with the Petawawa Research Forest on the Adaptive Silviculture to Climate Change (ASCC) research project.

A Walk in the PRF
Saturday, October 15, 2022, 9 a.m.
Meet at the old Visitors Centre just off the highway (Clouthier Road).
Please join us for a morning walk on the White Pine Silviculture Trail. Retired foresters Frank Knaapen and Robin Cunningham will talk about how we sustainably harvest and regenerate the pines, using methods developed in a large part from research at the PRF.
A leisurely walk on mostly level ground. Fall is such a nice time to be out in the woods–we can enjoy fall colours, plants and wildlife. Hope to see you there.

Birding in the Petawawa Research Forest
Saturday, May 28, 2022
Meet at 9 a.m. at the parking lot on Clouthier Road just off Highway 15. (Keen birders might want to come earlier and get a head start.)
We should be at the peak of spring migration and find several wood warblers and other jewels such as the Scarlet Tanager. We will drive throughout the PRF to visit various habitats and stop, listen, and look.
Christian Renault (Pembroke Area Field Naturalists) and Robin Cunningham will lead.
